ABC's EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER
TC Artworks had the wonderful opportunity to appear on ABC's Extreme Home Makeover and help a family by offering our professional faux finishing services. The pictures below show what was accomplished with wall murals, painted furniture, and other decorative arts. The experience was a professional faux finisher's dream: to use our abilities and skills to help out a family. Tamara is proud of the accomplishments of the whole team. Enjoy!

In the kitchen, Tamara combined function and casual elegance for this custom painted armoire. The result is a Country French look compatible with the warmth of the room, achieved with some faux finishing savoir faire.

A green accent table is painted in the bright color scheme of the boy's "sporty" bedroom. Tamara's professional faux-finishing skills add dramatic contrast to the orange walls.

With a whimsical touch, Tamara's decorative wall murals complement the feminine motif of the girl's bedroom. The pink castle wall mural adds youthful fun and fantasy to the girl's bedroom, which has a "princess" theme.

Off-The-Wall Innovations: Wall Coverings Go Way Beyond Paper and Paint

Tamara Clark covers the walls of her northwest Raleigh art studio with a kaleidoscope of patterns: three-dimensional designs with the feel of a centuries-old Venetian villa; slick oriental lacquers; grape clusters hanging ripe for the picking. Clark, who trains homeowners and professionals in the art of textured wall finishes, uses walls, not canvas, as her palette.
"Walls, ceilings, countertops, floors, I paint whatever can be painted on," said Clark, who has operated TC Artworks Design Studio for close to 20 years.

Her work adorns walls all over the Triangle, and she recently found herself on a team of local artists working on the Extreme Makeover home in the Mordecai historic district in Raleigh. "We worked for 24 hours straight," she said, painting a castle and other wall art in the little girl's room, and faux painting several pieces of furniture for the home.
Clark counts her specialty--decorative finishes--among a growing trend in home fashion in the Triangle, as homeowners opt to bring more of their own personalities into their living spaces. Venetian plasters, Old World style finishes, lacquers, even specialty copper-clad stenciling create drama where builder's beige once ruled. "It's not just ragging and sponging anymore," she said.
Adding texture and personality to a wall isn't limited by paint, however. Specialty surfaces consisting of wallpaper and glass come in thousands of colors, patterns and textures. Wallpaper choices today include three-dimensional styles made of pearls, sequins, even sand.
